Dr. Christina Jacobsen Filipović

Founder and Director of Medico Maris
Physician in Obstetrics, Gynecology & General Medicine

Dr. Christina Jacobsen Filipović is the founder and director of Medico Maris, bringing a deeply international medical background, broad clinical experience, and a lifelong personal connection to the island of Murter.

Born to Croatian parents and raised in Germany, Dr. Jacobsen Filipović studied medicine in Heidelberg and Berlin. She later specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Brussels, Belgium, and Landshut, Germany, before continuing her medical work in Landshut and Munich. In 2005, she moved with her family to the United States, where she continued her career in Greenville, South Carolina. There, she completed OB/GYN research, published numerous scientific publications, and became licensed as a physician in the United States in 2011.

Her career has taken her across many areas of medicine, including hospitals, research, humanitarian work, surgical care, and medical technology. She has traveled to the Himalayas and India on medical mission trips, providing care to remote communities with limited access to healthcare.

She later lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she worked with Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children, and Legacy of Life - an organ procurement organization. After returning to South Carolina, she worked as a surgical first assist alongside a neurosurgeon and later joined Medtronic, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies.

With the opening of Medico Maris, Dr. Jacobsen Filipović returned to one of the places closest to her heart. Murter has been part of her life since early childhood, representing warmth, nature, community, and belonging. Through Medico Maris, she hopes to give back to the community by providing accessible, thoughtful medical care for both local residents and visitors.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Jacobsen Filipović enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors, running, hiking, traveling, and experiencing different cultures. Above all, her greatest fulfillment comes from time spent together with her two children.
